Lake Erie Landscapes

David teams up with veteran nature photographer Art Weber, Director of the National Center for Nature Photography, for an “island photo adventure” – shooting sunrises, sunsets, cobbled beaches, rocky coastline, and coastal alvars – not to mention the chance to find federally endangered Lake Erie water snakes and photographing the endangered Lakeside Daisy. Learn with the pros along one of the Great Lake’s most pristine coastlines. Gain access to areas not open to the public. Classroom and field sessions will focus on scenic and macro photography. This is a distillation of David’s book, Visually Speaking, A Deeper Look at Creating Stronger Images, written to help photographers identify and use the elements and decisions of the photography in order to make photographs that more closely align with our intent, or vision, for them. If you’ve ever struggled to identify why you respond to an image in a certain way, or wrestled with how to photograph not just what you see, but what you feel, this is an hour-long class you don’t want to miss.

Photograph live animals in a hands-on setting, learning the techniques that led to David’s Curious Critters picture book being featured by Animal Planet. After explaining the history of his award-winning approach, David will talk about the techniques, challenges, and purposes for photographing often-overlooked creatures using white backgrounds. Then participate in a live Curious Critters shoot - using educational animals from TREC. Naturalist Brian Gula will assist David for the photo shoots. David will discuss positioning lights, posing animals, and processing images. Workshop includes classroom and photo sessions as well as over $500 in door prizes!
